I don’t do too anything to innovative with layout etc in this comic but i thought this attack on the street fair set piece would be a good place to bust out some big comic style aspect relational panels.  I have always thought of this as a black panel segment even though I’m in agreement that blacking out the panel borders doesn’t read as well for some reason.  For our purposes here, where the narrative flow isn’t bound by the traditional panel flow, breaking down that temporal structure makes more sense imo.

I learned that the famous day of the dead street fair is actually a recent phenomenon, inspired by a scene in a Daniel Craig James Bond movie.  I try to leave the exact ethnography of the festives a bit obscure, … tho I’m pretty sure Bolivia and Mexico both have traditions of this sort.  its in the golden age tradition of not really knowing what you’re drawing about.  Actually the inspiration for this scene was a local Bolivian dance troop I saw in a street parade many years ago. (I really should have tracked them down for source material, rats!)

Working on the art every day at the moment and trying to get thru issue 7 final touch ups as quickly as I can.  My plans for a late summer comic convention are holding up!  I have the six books.  May try to print some more,  Tales of the Irreal, Kalthar and maybe issue #7, too are all up for printing…Kalthar needs covers….TOTI could go just about as is tho….  Wishful thinking!  Knowing me I won’t be able to get thru all that in just a month… also want to make some Golden Age stickers.  That’s a whole deal of its own.  Issue 7 needs a ton of work, two whole pages and lots of color highlights….  okay issue 7 will probably have to wait which is too bad because the cover would attract a lot of attention….will keep going with it….

Also thinking about using the convention as an opportunity to launch a crowdfund for issue #1.  I always said if I could get to 7 issues I would crowdfund it so end of August is a good a time as any.  Getting it all together is going to be very left brained.  Busy Busy!
